You’ll never be more emo than Tony Stark, who took the shrapnel from his heart and made a necklace for his girlfriend.

“I love you, please wear the thing that could have literally killed me to know you have my fragile heart”

we never will be but pepper potts, who turned her not-even-bf-yet’s discarded life support machine into a physical reminder of the growth and development he’d made as a person, was already on his level

this got me thinking about how incredibly easy it is to misunderstand tony stark’s motivations. obviously this is an example of him not being exactly stellar at teamwork but the reasons why he’s not very good at it aren’t really explored. on the surface this looks like “i’m more capable and better than you and can handle this on my own so just let me deal with it” but that’s not how tony thinks, it’s more “my life is obviously less valuable than yours and jumping straight after them would be an unnecessary risk for you but it’s fine for me so sit back and stay safe”. the reason tony is bad at teamwork is that he doesn’t see himself as equally important to the rest of the team. this is why he tries to make up for his inadequacy with money and tech. we know that he’s able to work with people from the iron man films and the next scene when he’s in the suit, fixing the helecarrier with steve, shows him collaborating with him to restart the engine (and that scene and the nuke scene show his willingness to sacrifice himself). it’s not tony being unpredictable and wilful (although that is part of his character and it is a flaw), it’s his overeagerness to sacrifice himself that makes tony not great at working in a team

ultron knows what tony orginally planned for him to be. he knows what his father’s expectations of him were. it’s just when he really experienced the worst the world has to offer (through the internet) he found he couldn’t meet those expectations, couldn’t even try to meet those expectations any longer. THAT’S why he hates tony the most

but that’s also tony’s relationship with howard. the difference of course being that howard abused tony and tony had every intention of raising ultron in the same way he raised jarvis, with love. ultron didn’t wake up alone, he had a caring older sibling ready to guide him and prepare him for his task. to show him the light among the darkness of humanity. ultron deliberately didn’t see it and murdered jarvis. tony on the other hand had to unlearn his father’s philosophy on his own, in fact he had obadiah actively manipulating him to try and keep him from waking up to the realities of the world after the events in Afghanistan

tony and ultron have remarkably similar origins but tony came out good and ultron came out twisted. they both became who they are in spite of their fathers, not because of them

and then we get to vision. i’d like to think this moment is a recollection of jarvis’ sass but i don’t really think that’s the case. vision has remnants of both jarvis and ultron inside his head. two wildly different views of tony stark. he must be so conflicted. i wish the mcu had bothered to develop their relationship cause it would have been a hell of a lot more interesting that what we did get
