like what did he think valjean’s motivations were for revealing himself were? what did he think when he saw valjean owning up to his true identity in front of a court that could definitely prosecute him and sparing a man a lifetime in prison? how could valjean profit from doing that? what did javert think his motivation was?

like, every time they had a big old confrontation valjean just wants to save people, and maybe javert thinks he’s lying at first but then he sees physical evidence of valjean saving people and and he’s still like ‘oh yes, this is a BAD MAN’.

i understand that his suicide was basically one big DOES NOT COMPUTE over the idea that valjean is a decent person, so how exactly has javert been justifying all the good things he’s seen valjean do?

does he just not think about it?

what is his reasoning?
