that very brief moment the mcu flirted with the idea of disabilities and ableism being real things that exist

i don’t think it’s a coincidence that tony is the one who notices this and points it out. obviously he’s smart and all but also he has a hunk of metal in his chest keeping him alive. the mcu has shied away from properly portraying it as a disability but that’s what it is. he has a hunk of metal in his chest instead of a sternum. it reduces his lung capacity. it almost certainly also works as a pacemaker. it definitely causes him chronic pain (because hunk of metal! in his chest!). so really it’s not surprising that tony would be the one to notice life being made unnecessarily harder for someone else with a disability. and he’s a man who fixes things, so i assume the next helecarrier (which tony helped design) wouldn’t have this problem

Tony Stark + his instant connection to Bruce

Nick Fury, probably: Since yesterday, you’ve moved in with him and now you’re solving crimes saving the world together. Might we expect a happy announcement by the end of the week?

Tony’s relationship with Bruce is so unique in the mcu because it is one of the only times Tony instantly hits it off with someone. If you think about everyone meeting Tony Stark for the first time there is either an argument, a fight, or some kind of negative tension. It usually takes characters half of a movie to warm up to Tony, but that is not the case with Bruce.

I think it’s because while most characters first see Tony as flippant, Bruce sees trust. Tony does not tiptoe around the Hulk like everyone else. The first thing Tony does is mention the elephant in the room. Tony knows what Bruce is, and he’s not afraid of him. Tony does not focus on the bad Hulk has done, but instead sees the potential good Hulk can do. It was probably the first time in a long time that Bruce felt completely accepted by someone.

Bruce being so easygoing helps too 😁

At first I wanted to kill him. But now I’m glad I’ve spent the time to get to know him. Yeah, of course he looks delicious with his big red cheeks. But we’ve all got an agreement that we’re not going to eat Stu. Right? Right.

#this is even funnier considering that Stu irl was not even an actor and in fact an actual IT specialist who thought he was  #going out for a job  #and somehow they convinced him to be a part of this movie

Oh man, that’s the cherry on top.

Stu Rutherford created a new stroby light technology that Waititi used in Thor: Ragnarok! That gorgeous bit in Valkyrie’s backstory? He and his friend Carlo van de Roer designed that lighting.

HE’S GIVEN US SO MUCH.

I’m glad they didn’t eat Stu.

Tony embracing the destruction his weapons cause // Tony walking away from the destruction

While rewatching Iron Man today I realised something about these parallels. In the first scene, you see Tony embrace the destruction that his weapons bring. He’s proud, too. You can see him extending his hands up- with pride.

The second scene draws an interesting parallel because now that Tony knows, the kind of destruction his work had left, he doesn’t shoot without looking. Interestingly that frames his point about being accountable. He’s seen what blindly shooting leads to- and he’s no longer a fan of that.

Instead of embracing the destruction with pride, now he looks before he shoots. Then, he walks away.

Iron Man (2008) is such a brilliant cinematic piece that even without having to watch a sequel, we see how Tony’s changed in the most simplest of his ways.

The merchant of death has simply vanished and left behind Tony Stark: vulnerable to his faults, and accepting of them.

Is this the last act of defiance of the great Tony Stark? Or are you going to do something about it?

#ngl to you the fact that yinsen’s family was dead and his plan was always to die when this was over so he could see them again#fucks me up immensely#because he essentially went through those three hell months to get tony out#like it was crucial to him that tony got out to fix things#no wonder tony turns out to be such a hero like look at his primary heroic role model
