tony “little spoon” stark

#notice how he doesn’t sleep or keep on his side#he scoots close to pepper#as close as he could get without alarming her#she’s his safety net#his protector#the constant shield and safety net as his entire mind is crumbling#i’m livid that i never noticed how much he needs pepper#even when he’s not conscious  @capntony

your tags made me go back and watch the scene again, and you’re absolutely right–tony totally scooted back into her in the middle of a nightmare. this is fine. 🙂

dailymcugifs:

Although Yinsen had remained vigorous with his ablutions,
Stark had let himself go. This had nothing to do with any sense of giving in to
misery or despair, as might have once been the case. Instead, for Tony Stark,
this was business as usual. In the normal course of his normal life, once Stark
became caught up in the throes of creation, personal hygiene went out the
window. It usually fell to the disembodied promptings of Jarvis, or failing
that, the corporeal prodding from Pepper, to remind Stark that he should think
about changing the clothes he’d been wearing for three days or maybe run a
razor across the bushy growth that was accruing on his face.

After the first day or so, Yinsen had simply taken to
staying the hell out of Stark’s way. He had even stopped asking Stark if he was
hungry since he tended not to receive answers. Instead, every so often, he
would just put out food for Stark, who would – sooner or later – eat it without
looking at it or even noticing that he was doing so.

#rhodey ain’t buying your bullshit tony

it’s not bullshit though! and rhodey knows that. he knows tony well enough by now that he can see that tony 100% means this statement, and that means he’s hiding something

my personal headcanon here is that rhodey spends most of iron man 2 thinking tony has relapsed. it’s never explicit in the mcu but tony stark is an alcoholic, and what with his history of partying i think he was on some pretty hardcore drugs in his past too. he’d kicked the habit already by iron man (at least the drugs, he still drinks) but rhodey would have been there for all of it. rhodey’s seen this all before and he knows there’s absolutely no way he can help tony until tony asks. and wouldn’t that just kill him?

and then there’s tony. tony the genius is gonna know exactly what rhodey will think of his behaviour. tony is letting his best friend believe he’s fallen off the wagon rather than tell him he’s dying. in fact with his birthday party he’s deliberately encouraging that assumption

neither of them are to blame in this situation. tony is acting irrationally but he’s perfectly justified in doing so (a lot can be excused when a person is literally dying), and rhodey is only going off the very limited information he has available to him. (in fact the only people who can be blamed for acting the way they do in the film are vanko, hammer and shield but that’s a different meta)

“i know exactly what i’m doing” always makes me shudder, because it’s true, tony knows it’s true, the audience knows it’s true and rhodey knows it’s true, but rhodey is the only one who doesn’t know why or how it’s true
