Peter’s mask snaps into place almost 100 times faster then Tony’s does and if that doesn’t imply that Tony (besides putting his own safety below his son’s) wanted to keep his kid as safe as possible and designed Peter’s suit to do just that then idk what does 

i totally could see that, but consider this

tony is aware of how sexy the nanotech looks when it forms around him and can’t help but want to be dramatic af about it

both of these are super valid, but i’d also like to throw in that there must be a moment of disorientation when the mask is forming around the eyes, and for that split second the wearer is vulnerable. tony also likely has more control over the nanotech

so tony is delaying the formation of his mask, making it go that bit slower and leaving himself unprotected so that he can watch to make sure peter is okay while his mask forms, and only after that does he take care of himself
